Invigorate and freshen up your mind, body and soul with a luxurious Moroccan Bath. Many are wondering what is a Moroccan bath? What does it do to my skin? These are some of the common questions we get about this kind of treatment.
The Moroccan bath, commonly known as “Hamam Maghrabi” is a traditional cleansing treatment offered across the Middle East. Originated from Roman Empire and was quickly adopted into Arabic culture as a bathing ritual. Primarily centered around the ceremonial act of washing parts of the body before praying.
The lack of drainage system in homes in Morocco produced a need for the bathing houses wherein this ancient treatment was adopted. Today it was developed into a spa treatment.
Common questions
- Will you be naked during a Moroccan bath?
Yes, you have to be naked. Women can either go naked or wear bikini bottoms or underwear. In most spas, they provide disposable underwear, towel and a robe. For men you must wear bottoms. You will be given a disposable pair of underwear to put on. Once you are aptly undressed, put on your robe and go meet your masseuse or a therapist
- What is the process?
Moroccan bath begins with a body cleansing and this includes your hair. You’ll be covered with an authentic Moroccan black soap. You’ll then be asked to relax in a private steam room and allow the black soap to do its magic. Once your body pores are opened from the steam the massage therapist will assist you in washing it off. She will then begin scrubbing your skin with a loofah. After the scrubbing she applies a body masque. The body masque is left on your skin for approximately 15 minutes, allowing body’s impurities to rise to the surface. The Morrocan bath will end with a nice massage of your choice.
In most spa’s the whole process usually lasts for 45-60 minutes, depending on the package you choose. There are different types of massages that are incorporated in a Morrocan bath. But at the end of the whole process, you will definitely feel strangely relaxed, refreshed and glowing.
